FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most common questions we receive as remodeling contractors.
Do you help with the design phase?
Yes. For kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and other remodeling projects, I can help you think through layout options, materials, and practical solutions. I don’t offer formal design services, but I’m happy to guide you based on experience and what works well in real homes.
If I have general ideas, will you help me figure out what makes the most sense?
Absolutely. Most homeowners start with ideas, photos, or a general direction. I’ll walk the space with you, talk through options, and help you choose what’s realistic, functional, and within your budget.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Old School Handyman LLC is fully insured, and I operate within the scope of work allowed for my business and trade.
How long will my project take?
Every project is different. Smaller jobs may take a few hours or a day, while larger remodels can take several days or weeks. After seeing the project in person, I’ll give you a clear timeline so you know exactly what to expect.
Can I stay in my home during the work?
In most cases, yes. I work cleanly and keep the impact on your home as minimal as possible. For larger remodels, there may be short periods where certain rooms are unavailable, but I’ll always let you know ahead of time.
Can I request changes once the project has started?
Yes — as long as the change is practical and doesn’t affect completed work. If a change affects cost or timeline, I’ll explain it clearly before moving forward.
Do you work alone or with a crew?
I handle the work myself. For projects that require licensed trades, I coordinate with trusted professionals, but you’ll always deal directly with me.
Do you supply materials, or do I need to buy them?
I supply all the standard materials needed to complete the job — things like fasteners, adhesives, drywall supplies, trim materials, and other basics.
For items where style and personal preference matter (tile, faucets, flooring, vanities, fixtures, etc.), the homeowner selects those. I can point you toward reliable local suppliers and help you understand what to look for. If something needs to be picked up locally, I’m usually able to handle that as well.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes. I stand behind the work I do. If something isn’t right, I’ll make it right.
What areas do you service?
I’m based in Budd Lake and work throughout Morris, Sussex, and Warren County. If you’re nearby, just ask — I’ll let you know if it’s within my range.
How do I get an estimate?
Just contact me to schedule an in home visit. I’ll look at the project, discuss your goals, and provide a straightforward estimate.
