Testimonials

"Old School Remodeling recently completed our kitchen renovation, and we could not be happier with the results. Our project involved complete removal of our old kitchen, converting an adjacent room into the new kitchen, and removing a wall in between. We converted an existing patio door into windows, and enlarged another existing window. As it was an involved project, Steve closely worked with our plumber and electrician to make sure that things got done properly and in a timely manner. Steve was exceptionally accommodating to our needs as homeowners. He arranged his work creating the new kitchen before demolishing the old so that we were never without a functioning sink and stove. He laid the tile in sections so that we would walk through a main thoroughfare without needing to go outside and reenter though the garage as the flooring dried. Each day the construction site was left neat and clean. It was clear that Steve took the time to make sure that things were done right, and it was important to him that the job functioned and looked how exactly how we wanted it in the end. In addition to installing what was delivered, Steve was creative and resourceful in dealing with issues that arose. When the sink base cabinet arrived the wrong size for our farmhouse sink, Steve modified the cabinet beautifully. When the size in range was the wrong height for the counter (even with factory recommended adjustments, Steve was able to modify the footings to make the range safe and level. His attention to detail (arranging tiles to avoid repeated prints, rounding the edges of custom trim) made the finished project beautiful. We do not hesitate recommending Old School Remodeling to our family and friends, and look forward to working with Steve again on our next house project!"

"Over the past few years, we have had the good fortune to have Steve Hopps, the owner and operator of Old School Handyman, complete a number of projects for us. He has replaced the tile in our front foyer and has upgraded the main upstairs bathroom. Not only is his work outstanding, but we found him to be friendly, efficient, honest, and creative. He recently completely gutted and remodeled our master bathroom and added an amazing shoe closet to our bedroom. We are so pleased with his work that when anyone comes to visit us, we proudly offer them a “tour” of our new bathroom and shoe closet. We highly recommend Steve’s work and if you are ever in our neighborhood, please stop by and take the “tour”! The Greenbergs of Succasunna, NJ"

"My family and I live in Succasunna. Steve Hopps and Old School Handyman is currently installing wood floors and moulding in several rooms. He has also done several projects in the past for us including a full master bathroom re-do, a kitchen renovation, laundry room, kids bath renovation and replacing all the doors in our house. My experience with Steve has been outstanding – hence we have done several projects with him. We have passed on his contact information to several neighbors and friends and he has done both small and bigger projects for them. My review of Steve/Old School is : 1) First and foremost, Steve is an honest and transparent businessman. He was very open with his proposals, prices, what he was committing to and once committed, Steve delivered and did everything in his power to make sure we were happy. Once Steve started a project he stayed fully engaged and finished the project. Unlike some other contractors and firms I’ve dealt with, Steve did not start multiple large projects and disappear for a few days or longer to work on something else. 2) Knowledgeable – Steve has seen and done a lot of things, he was very good with generating ideas, options, telling us where to go for your various options (flooring, cabinets, counters, appliances, etc). For us he brought good ideas to improve on our own initial plans and ideas. We spent many conversations around my kitchen table discussing and thinking of things. I’ve seen a lot of contractors that just want to have you make a decision so they can do the work and get out – Steve is not at all like that. 3) Flexible – when we had a new idea or encountered an unexpected challenge, Steve was very good and easygoing to sit down with us to collaborate and solve. Steve also found ways to minimize the disruption for our family that comes with a kitchen remodel – for example, when he pulled our countertops to measure and template new ones, he then reinstalled old countertops and plumbing connections so we would not be without use of kitchen while granite was cut – things like this made a big difference. I have some friends that ate takeout for weeks while their kitchen was being remodeled. 4) Professional and pleasant – Steve and his team were pleasant to have in your house, professional, clean and neat and if you hire Steve you will find that he’s quite a conversationalist. In short, if given the choice, I would hire Steve again for any of the projects that he did for us and he will be my first choice on any future projects."
